AI & Voice Agent Disclosure
Transparency about how our AI systems work, what data they process, and your rights.
1.About Our AI Systems
Drivzu uses an AI-powered voice booking assistant to help you find driving instructors and book lessons. The voice assistant is designed to make the booking process faster and more accessible by allowing you to speak naturally rather than navigate forms and menus.
Under the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), our voice assistant is classified as a limited-risk AI system. This means it is subject to transparency obligations but is not considered high-risk. We are committed to meeting and exceeding these transparency requirements.
The purpose of our AI systems is to:
- Help you find suitable driving instructors based on your preferences (location, availability, price).
- Check instructor availability in real time.
- Initiate lesson bookings on your behalf (subject to your payment confirmation).
- Answer common questions about the booking process.
Our AI systems do not make decisions about your eligibility, creditworthiness, or any other matter that would require human judgement.
2.How the Voice Agent Works
Our voice booking assistant uses several AI technologies working together in real time. Here is how the process works, step by step:
- You speak — Your voice is captured through your device's microphone and streamed in real time.
- Speech-to-Text (Deepgram) — Your speech is converted into text using Deepgram's speech recognition technology.
- Understanding & Response (Google Gemini) — The text is processed by Google's Gemini large language model, which understands your request, searches for instructors, checks availability, and generates an appropriate response.
- Text-to-Speech (Cartesia) — The text response is converted into natural-sounding speech using Cartesia's voice synthesis technology.
- You hear the response — The synthesised speech is streamed back to your device.
LiveKit provides the real-time communication transport layer that connects all these components with low latency, enabling a natural conversational experience.
The voice assistant can search for instructors, check their availability, and initiate bookings. However, all bookings require you to confirm payment separately — the AI cannot complete a financial transaction on your behalf.
3.What Data Is Processed
During a voice session, the following categories of data are processed:
- Voice audio: Your speech is streamed in real time to our speech-to-text provider (Deepgram) for transcription. Audio is processed as a live stream and is not permanently recorded or stored.
- Speech transcripts: The text transcription of your speech is used to understand your request and generate a response.
- Booking preferences: Information you provide during the conversation, such as preferred location, date, time, and lesson type.
- Session metadata: Technical data including your session ID, timestamps, and connection information required for the service to function.
If you are a registered user, your session may also be associated with your Drivzu account to provide a more personalised experience (for example, remembering your preferred area or previous instructors).
4.Data Storage & Retention
We take a privacy-first approach to data storage:
- Voice audio is processed in real time as a live stream and is not stored permanently. Audio data is discarded after transcription is complete.
- Speech transcripts may be retained for a limited period to improve service quality, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. Transcripts are stored securely and access is restricted.
- Session metadata (session IDs, timestamps, connection logs) is retained for operational and security purposes in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
- Booking data resulting from a voice session is stored as part of your normal booking record and is subject to the standard retention periods set out in our Privacy Policy.
You can request deletion of your data at any time. See Section 6 for details.
5.Third-Party AI Services
Our voice assistant relies on the following third-party AI services:
| Provider | Function | Purpose | Data Processed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deepgram | Speech-to-Text (STT) | Converts your spoken words into text | Voice audio stream |
| Google Gemini | Large Language Model (LLM) | Understands your request and generates responses | Text transcripts, booking context |
| Cartesia | Text-to-Speech (TTS) | Converts text responses into natural speech | Response text |
| LiveKit | Real-time Transport | Provides low-latency communication between all components | Audio streams, session metadata |
Each of these providers processes data in accordance with their own privacy policies and our data processing agreements with them. Data shared with these providers is limited to what is strictly necessary for their function.
6.Your Rights & Choices
We want you to feel informed and in control when using our AI systems. Here are your key rights:
- Transparency: You are always interacting with an AI system, not a human. The voice assistant will identify itself as an AI at the start of each session.
- Right to end: You can end a voice session at any time by simply closing the interface or saying "goodbye". No booking will be confirmed without your explicit payment action.
- Human alternative: You always have the option to book through non-AI channels. You can email us at hello@drivzu.ie or browse instructors directly through the website.
- Data access: You can request a copy of any data associated with your voice sessions by contacting privacy@drivzu.ie.
- Data deletion: You can request deletion of your voice session data at any time by contacting privacy@drivzu.ie.
For full details of your data protection rights, please see our Privacy Policy.
7.AI Limitations
Our AI voice assistant is a useful tool, but it has limitations that you should be aware of:
- May make errors: The AI may occasionally misunderstand your speech, provide inaccurate information, or make mistakes. Always verify important details before confirming a booking.
- Human-in-the-loop for payments: All bookings initiated through the voice assistant require you to confirm and complete payment separately. The AI cannot authorise financial transactions. This is an intentional safety measure.
- Cannot give driving advice: The AI is a booking assistant only. It cannot and does not provide driving instruction, road safety advice, or guidance on test preparation.
- Cannot access financial information: The AI does not have access to your payment details, bank information, or any other financial data.
- Limited scope: The AI is designed for booking-related tasks only. It cannot assist with account management, complaints, or other matters outside its defined scope.
If the AI cannot help with your request, it will direct you to the appropriate support channel.
8.EU AI Act Compliance
Drivzu is committed to compliance with the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689). Here is how we meet our obligations:
- Article 50 — Transparency obligations: We clearly disclose that users are interacting with an AI system. The voice assistant identifies itself as AI at the beginning of each session, and this disclosure page provides comprehensive information about how our AI systems work.
- Article 4 — AI literacy: Drivzu ensures that staff members who develop, deploy, and oversee our AI systems have a sufficient level of AI literacy appropriate to their role. We provide ongoing training on AI capabilities, limitations, and responsible use.
- Classification as limited-risk: Our voice booking assistant is classified as a limited-risk AI system under the EU AI Act. It is not used for high-risk purposes such as biometric identification, credit scoring, or employment decisions. Its sole function is to assist with the booking of driving lessons.
We regularly review our AI systems to ensure ongoing compliance as the regulatory landscape evolves.
