Insurance & Safety
Important information about insurance requirements and safety standards for all Drivzu users.
1.Our Commitment to Safety
At Drivzu, the safety of learner drivers, instructors, and all road users is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a platform where learners can connect with qualified, insured professionals in a safe and supportive environment.
All instructors listed on the Drivzu platform must meet strict requirements before they can offer lessons. We take steps to verify credentials and encourage our community to report any safety concerns. However, Drivzu is a technology marketplace and does not directly employ instructors or provide insurance coverage.
Please read this page carefully to understand your responsibilities and those of the instructors and accompanying drivers you may work with.
2.Instructor Requirements
Every instructor who offers lessons through the Drivzu platform must satisfy the following requirements:
- Valid RSA ADI registration: Instructors must hold a current Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) registration issued by the Road Safety Authority of Ireland. Drivzu verifies ADI status during the onboarding process and periodically thereafter.
- Specialised driving instruction insurance: Instructors must carry motor insurance that specifically covers driving instruction. A standard private or commercial motor insurance policy is not sufficient. The policy must name the instructor as a professional driving instructor and cover learner drivers under instruction.
- Valid NCT and motor tax: The vehicle used for instruction must have a current National Car Test (NCT) certificate and be fully taxed.
- Professional indemnity insurance (recommended): While not legally required, we strongly recommend that instructors carry professional indemnity insurance to protect against claims arising from their professional activities.
Drivzu verifies ADI registration status and may request proof of insurance at any time. Instructors who fail to maintain these requirements will be suspended from the platform. For full instructor obligations, see the Instructor Agreement.
3.Vehicle Standards
All vehicles used for driving instruction or supervised practice sessions through Drivzu must meet the following standards:
- The vehicle must be roadworthy and in good mechanical condition at all times
- The vehicle must be properly insured for its intended use (driving instruction or accompanied driving, as applicable)
- Dual controls must be fitted where required by RSA regulations for driving instruction
- L-plates (or N-plates where applicable) must be displayed in accordance with the law
- The vehicle must have a current NCT certificate and be fully taxed
The instructor or accompanying driver is responsible for ensuring their vehicle meets all legal and safety requirements. Drivzu does not inspect vehicles and cannot be held liable for vehicle-related issues.
4.Student Safety
As a learner driver using the Drivzu platform, you have important responsibilities for your own safety and the safety of others:
- Carry your valid learner permit: You must hold a valid learner permit for the vehicle category you are learning to drive, and you must carry it with you at all times during lessons and practice sessions.
- Inform your instructor of medical conditions: You must disclose any medical condition, disability, or medication that could affect your ability to drive safely. This includes conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, visual impairment, or any condition listed on the NDLS medical fitness requirements.
- Follow instructor safety directions: During lessons, you must follow all safety instructions given by your instructor. If at any point you feel unwell or unable to drive safely, inform your instructor immediately.
- Accompanied driving requirements: Under RSA rules, learner permit holders must be accompanied at all times by a qualified driver when driving. This applies to practice sessions outside of professional instruction. Ensure your accompanying driver meets the requirements set out in Section 5.
For more information on your obligations, please see the Student Terms.
5.Accompanying Driver Requirements
If you use the Drivzu platform to connect with an accompanying driver for supervised practice sessions, the accompanying driver must meet the following requirements:
- Full driving licence: The accompanying driver must hold a full Irish driving licence for the relevant vehicle category, held for a minimum of 2 years.
- Appropriate insurance: The vehicle used for practice must be insured to cover the learner driver. The accompanying driver is responsible for ensuring this cover is in place.
- Valid NCT: The vehicle must have a current NCT certificate.
- Not a replacement for professional instruction: Accompanying drivers provide supervised practice opportunities. They are not a substitute for lessons with an RSA-registered ADI instructor. Students should complete the required EDT (Essential Driver Training) lessons with an approved instructor.
For full terms applicable to accompanying drivers, see the Accompanying Driver Agreement.
6.Platform Safety Features
Drivzu provides the following safety features to help protect our community:
- ADI verification: We verify each instructor's RSA ADI registration number during onboarding and conduct periodic re-verification to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Review and rating system: After each lesson, students can leave a review and rating. This transparent feedback system helps maintain high standards and allows you to make informed choices when selecting an instructor.
- Reporting mechanisms: If you experience any safety concern, inappropriate behaviour, or breach of platform rules, you can report it directly through the app or by contacting support@drivzu.ie. All reports are investigated promptly.
- Content moderation: Reviews, messages, and profile content are monitored to maintain community standards and prevent abuse. See our Community Guidelines for details.
7.Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency during a driving lesson or practice session:
- Contact emergency services first: If anyone is injured or in immediate danger, call 999 or 112 immediately. Your safety and the safety of others is the absolute priority.
- Secure the scene: If you are involved in a road traffic incident, follow standard procedures: turn on hazard lights, move to safety if possible, and do not leave the scene.
- Report to Drivzu: After the immediate situation is handled, please report the incident to Drivzu so we can provide support and ensure appropriate follow-up. You can contact us at support@drivzu.ie or through the in-app reporting feature.
Drivzu will assist where possible, including facilitating communication between parties, supporting insurance claims processes, and taking any necessary platform action.
8.Disclaimer
